Had the 6 minute test today. Run as far as you can in 6 minutes. My main goal was to get 5 laps in, and the furthest I wanted to get was 2100 meters. Finished with 2016 meters, and I was very satisfied. I am SO ready to race on the track this season.

Also, IT SNOWED!!

Nice chill long run with Colton Logan and Corbin. Went up Foremaster and down the other side onto the river trail. Ended up looping back near the high school with 20 minutes left still, so we had to extend hardcore. Then Logan and I still had to extent 15 more because we are level 3. Wowzers that sure was fun.

Long run with 3 sets of 1x1x2 pickups. Had to go to the bathroom so I got left and had no idea where everyone went. Luckily some kids were still hanging out at the high school (for reasons unknown) and they directed me to my friends. Ended up catching up to them like 2.5 miles in, and discovered that I started 5 minutes after them. Average pace of 6:46 which is hecka fast for a long run, but it wasn't that hard so that's good.

Nice workout today. Not sure the name of it, but it's 3x60 second at tempo, then 3x60 second threshold, then 5x30 second critical velocity. Then do it all again but backwards. My paces were a bit quicker than the others, so I was up front a bit every time. Not that hard of a workout but it got our legs moving and that's good.

On the way back Alex's back started hurting and at first I thought he was being a wuss, but then it got to the point where he couldn't run anymore so he walked through the desert up to the road and Julien and I went and got in the car and drove like 5 blocks to pick Alex up, and we found him lying down on the sidewalk sprawled out like he was dead. He got a little better and we went to Denny's to celebrate his OKness.

Nice workout with the 3-3-5-3-3 things at slower to faster to slower paces. Started the first one and Coach was running next to me and asked if I felt like we were on pace, I told him no we're too slow, and he was questioning it for a second but I picked it up and hit the exact distance I was supposed to. He said he should've never doubted me, and that he doesn't doubt me often. Feels good to have a coach be proud of you and understand what you're capable of. Thanks buddy :))

Wowwww. I woke up late for the first time this whole YEAR. Year as in since school started. I woke up at 6:15 exactly, and I woke up to a text message sound, and my phone said that the alarm was going off, but there was no sound. Laaammmeee. I usually have good habits and automatically wake up like 5 minutes before my alarm, but I had a super crazy dream that I'd rather not share on here, so I'm guessing that's why I didn't wake up.

Anyways... Run was hilly up to Green Springs, and I don't know why but I was just going slow up the hills. I didn't feel tired or anything, but I felt like everyone was going really fast.

Nice chill run by my lonesome. Ran from my house out to the Fields and did Roller Coasters. It was epic. It's like a real roller coaster bc it's just up down up down up down wheeee and it's fun. On my way back home I saw some birds flying and it was pretty interesting. Rather than flying In a "V" shape, they were all lined up diagonally. I was watching and was very interested in how they were all the same distance between each other and flapping their wings at the same time. Then suddenly, the front 3 birds started going a little quicker and to the left. The rest of the pack started slowing and drifting to the left, and they all started making noise. Then the front of the back pack zoomed and reconnected with the front pack, and all of the others followed without question.

I connected this back to Cross Country races. We try our hardest to keep a nice pack, and the front people always break off and the next pack never really pushes with them. I feel like the communication was the most important part of the birds' packing. The front group left, started to leave, then they all communicated and regrouped back together. I honestly learned a lot from these birds and I'm pretty sure I'm going to use this lesson whenver I talk about teamwork. I konw it's probably not that easy, and these birds fly together every day to practice. It's just going to be something that we have to work on together, and master the art of packing.

The way back was fun though because it was all downhill! Achilles kinda started hurting, but it went away mid run. Iced it when I got home with a bag of Dino nuggets because our ice machine doesn't work. Up north to tour some colleges. Check for some high schools near my hotel on maps, and found Alta High 2.2 miles away. Got to the hotel at like 9:20 and I quickly changed and went running towards Alta to see if I could do my workout tomorrow morning. It took my about 17 minutes to get there and the workout calls for 15 minutes of warmup, so I figured it was pretty good. I ran down the street a little further and then flipped and ran back to the hotel. It was kinda scary being there alone in the dark and not knowing exaclty where I was, but I'm still alive so it's okay.

After doing the math last night about how far away from my hotel Alta High was, I deided to do my workout there. It was super dark and I was way tired when I woke up, but I had to get it done. Went and hopped the small fence onto their track and did the workout. All one minute with equal recovery, I did 4 CV, 3 threshold, 3 tempo, 3 thres and 4 cv. Hit all of my paces right on, except for the first two tempos were a bit quick. Overall good workout.

On the way back, however, I almost got killed...... by a plastic bag stuck to a tree. At 5 in the morning in a place you don't know anything about, you get a little paranoid. When running around corners or next to parked cars and such, I ran with my fists clenched ready to fight. Although I was ready to fight, the plastic bag scared the freaking crap out of me. I jumped so far that if there was a car coming they definitely would have hit me.

Very slow and hard run. I'm not sure why but I am so fatigued from this week. Traveling up north and back and doing both runs within 8 hours of each other and aahhhhh. The whole run was just long and I couldn't get myself to go faster than 8:30 pace and my legs wouldn't take my knees higher. It's alright though. I still got a quicker finish of about 7:50 and went home and then went straight to work. Although I had a rough start to my morning, I went to a pokemon tournament after work and I won! Church rocks trail run. The tunnel was spooky. I was the first one in on the way out and I was worried I would fall over and everyone would kill me, and one the way back I was the last one in and I was worried someone would attack me from behind and no one would know. But as you can see, I survived.

Went and bought 8 corn dogs for only $4 and sold two of them to my sister for $1.50 so I got one of my corn dogs for free pretty much. Finally move a giant dresser that's been sitting in my living room into my room. It was extremely heavy and I am extremely weak so it was pretty difficult. Good thing I got my old man who is a beast. Old man hills. Nice easy pace and just pushing up the hill. Coach said it work more on letting your quad and your butt and hammy pull your leg up rather than pushing so hard off of your calf, and I found that this actually really helped. It's a total different feeling in each bound and it's a lot easier to drive the knee up. I'll probably start running like this more to work on picking my feet up. But yeah overall a cheese workout and felt good in the legs.12.

Sick trail run out in Hurricane. Don't remember the name but we ran out on the rim trail and just had a nice view of a river from way high up. Stopped half way through and chucked some rocks of and they took FOREVER to hit the water. Legendary. Pretty easy long run and we kept a good pace for trail running. I felt 100% until about the last 10 minutes, and my heart area started hurting and my left back started tensing up pretty bad. It's happened quite a few times, but this one hurt pretty bad. I tried a new pain tolerance technique, and I just focused on my breathing, and ONLY my breathing. It actually really worked when I had all of my attention on my breath, but when I would slip away from focus it would hurt more. I was only able to focus for like 5 minutes, and suffered for the last 5 of the run. Felt perfectly fine once we started running, so it's not like a permanent pain so that's good.

I am so tired. I don't know why but I feel like shizzzzzz. This run wasn't necessarily hard, but I was tired the whole time and I didn't feel good. Probably just fatigue from school and running and whatever I'm not sure. But I have a really bad headache and I'm just really tired but I have a lot of homework so hopefully I survive.

I DID NOT SLEEP LAST NIGHT HOLY CRAP. I had the worst headache when I went to sleep last night and I would close my eyes and open them like 40 minutes minutes later. This literally happened more than 10 times and it frigging sucked. Felt like crap all day and fell asleep in my classes and was just brain dead I don't know. Maybe it's from the twitter fights, maybe from the tests and class assignments. Either way, I felt SUPER good during the workout, and I was very worried because the morning run was really hard becasue of my headache. #BlessedATH

Nice workout consisting of 2x(4x400 and 1x800) at CV pace of about 1:19 per lap. Was within 1:18-1:20 every time and wasn't too tough. The 800s were a little tougher-- not because I couldn't keep the pace but because I got antsy and went too quick on the second lap. Ran about 1-2 seconds faster on both 800s, but that's okay I think. Need to work on feeling the pace just a little better. I think I'm already pretty good at that, but I need to practice for longer distances.

Super cheese run but it was foofing cold. We were joking chanting "INDOORS! INDOORS! INDOORS!" because it was so cold and running inside would be warm. I was totally joking, and so were a few of us, and when we said "Go" to start our run, and like 90% of the guys went into the school and ran inside! I was just kidding and those guys are wussies lol. It really wasn't THAT cold, it was just really windy. OH AND IT SNOWED HOLY COW. But haha no it really wasn't cold enough to run inside. So there were only like 6 of us on the run and we went to the Squaredesack and it was epic.

Half marathonnnnnn. Was a fun race and I would've won, but I had to stop twice to take a dump. Just kidding about the winning part, but I bet I would've done better. Ran with Mitch Julien Coach and Alex, and I stopped before Hell Hole to poop, and then I ran really fast and tried to catch up with them, and the stuff was about to fall out of my body so I stopped at Sullivan again and got it all out. Then I ran like 30 seconds slower than our avereage pace for like 2 miles before I realized how slow I was going. But I wasn't sore at all after and I wasn't completely exhausted, so it shows that I could've done better, and I definitely will next year :)

Ran a 1500m time trial today. Was shooting for a 4:10, missing it just barely with a solid 4:21. Not really sure what happened. I started out quite a bit slow and went slower on the second lap, then I felt like I needed to poop on the third lap and the finish wasn't a matter of if I could go faster or not, but a matter of if I was willing to push hard enough that the poop would come out. Freaking heck I'm going to start taking hardcore medication pills so that I will not have ANY problems at all becuase I freaking hate it. Also,

VERY IMPORTANT:

I am deleting my social media apps. I don't know if it will actually do anything, and it will probably be very hard, but I've just come to notice that I spend a lot of time on it and I often get stressed out about certain things on there (Guys team, you know what I mean) and I just feel like it would be good to spend less time on it. I also noticed that Galen Rupp doesn't use social media, Lopez Lomong really just does it to share his awesomeness, and Casey Clinger doesn't even have any accounts anywhere. And most importantly, Steve Prefontaine didn't even have the option to have social media. I look up to all of these guys, so I think I'm going to go ahead and try it out and see how it feels. :)

Nice solid workout with the guys. After our 1500 meter time trial last week, everyone's paces for workouts have been changed to faster speeds, so now us top 5 guys have the same workout paces. It's a lot different doing them with a whole pack of guys, because I can't control how fast everyone is going. We were a bit quick the whole time, but I was in the back of the pack and right on time hitting low 1:18 400s. Holy cows. It's been a while since we've actually raced, and you could definitely tell. My goal was about 9:40-9:50, and I thought I was doing pretty good. Each lap, the SC dude with the timer told us our splits, and I don't know what the foof was wrong with him. He told me 1:11, 1:13, 1:13, 1:14, 1:13, 1:12, and I didn't hear the last two. But yeah I finished with a solid 9:58.03 and barely qualified. The lap times he told me should've led to a 9:40 something and I felt as though I was pushing that hard, but apparently not haha. Feel sad for Mitch because he missed state qualifying by .4 seconds, while I got it by .4 seconds.. So that blows. PV invite is next, and instead of over analyzing the race beforehand, I think I'm just gonna go out there and try to run fast.

Also, it was a 3200m-not a 2 mile. The race thing is getting mad at me and saying that 1.988 miles is not a certified distance soo...   sorry.

Nice run today. Didn't get much sleep last night. Went Ghost hunting with Corbin, Miles, and Parker in Grafton and I think they followed us home and woke up up like 14 times in the middle of the night.

Ran my first afternoon run this week today because I was tired on Tuesday and I was busy Wednesday, so I'll just do them today and tomorrow. Went an avg of 6:45 pace on my run and was worried that I went too fast, but it wasn't stressful at all and I don't think I'll be very tired from it.

ALSO, I went and bought my own computer today so I can finally update my runs because ours has been super poopy and I don't like using it. Now I should be able to post my runs every day instead of every other. :)

Super exhausted from this week because I've been staying up since it's spring break, and I've ran at 7 and worked for 5 hours everyday and ran right when I got home a few days too. Glad it's finally over and I'm ready to chill tomorrow. My knee didn't hurt at all throughout the day so it seems it's only when I'm running. 90 minute long run + 25 afternoon

2-1-3-2-1-2 pickups with 5 minute recovery in between each rep. Towards end of run

Nice dope long run. Coach talked about being dedicated and hard working in the morning during the run and then we had a meeting right before practice and he shared a quote from Pre that says "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift." I've heard this quote plenty of times because I love Pre and I'll probably marry him in the afterlife or something. But anyways... It really comforted me, but worried me at the same time. I know for a fact that I am all in when it comes to my effort in running. I want to go somewhere in life because of running, so I give it everything I've got. What worries me is the fact that there are so many others who say the same thing, but they really don't care. They slack off on workouts or do stupid things that prevent them from running their best. I'm going to start taking a stand against idiocracy and start holding my teamates accountable. I know I want to succeed, but I'm not sure if everyone else does.

Easy cheesy. Sike. Not sure why, but this workout was pretty tough not just for me, but for everyone else too. Our range was 3:54-4:00 and me and Julien were right by each other and hit 3:53, 3:55, low 3:56, and finished with a 3:53. We were quite a bit of everyone else and they seemed to be hitting low 4's which is slower than our range. Not really sure if it was the heat or the fact that we did a long run yesterday, but it was a tough workout. Not tough enough that we couldn't do it, but definitely harder than usual.

Nice chill shoe run and once again I almost took us through a crosswalk that wasn't good to go through, but I screamed my lungs out that it wasn't safe, and saved a solid potential maybe 3 lives I bet. Just kidding but we are all alive and that's all that matters. Ready for the 1600 tomorrow. Forgot to track my cooldown on my watch, and we just jogged around the football field so I have no idea how far/long we ran. But it doesn't matter because I ran a flipping 9:40 3200!!! Super proud and happy and ugh it was awesome. My form was sluggish in my 1 mile yesterday, so I tried to focus really hard on picking my knees up the whole time during the race today, and it worked! We started out good and I think I was in about 12 place when we hit the first mile at 4:50. The front people probably hit a solid low 40's, and that's cruisin. None of them really managed to keep that pace going for the rest of the race, and I could definitely tell. I was feeling super good and was going super quick towards the end, and it seemed like everyone was slowing down a lot. My last lap ended up being like a 1:05 so that's pretty awesome. I almost caught Jaden too. Definitely learned a lot and I'm ready to shave off more and more time so that I can hit that 9:20.

Long runnnn. Went up foremaster and back down and onto the river trail. This run didn't feel as long as most long runs, which is weird. My knee is still killing me duing runs and it blows, but it's not preventing me from running. Trying to work on my form and pick up my knees a bunch while we go. It's a lot harder than it should be because my legs aren't super strong and I get tired and it becomes hard to keep lifting them. I'll get to that super form eventually, though. Feeling really confident coming into this week, because I got a lot of homework done, state qualified in the 1600 and got a 9:40 on the 3200, opened a pack of these cool star wars cards in this game that I play and got a Darth Vader card and sold it for $30, and most importantly, I GOT A 32 ON THE ACT!!!! Ready to rek fam.

15 morning + 60 afternoon w races

Started off the meet with a solid 4x1600 with Dallen Julien and Mitch. I think we all ran around 4:40 something. I got 4:40 barely. The wind was freaking killer.

The main event of the day, however, was the 3200. The plan was to get as many people qualified as possible. This includes Xander, Mikey, Logan, and Alex. And maybe Nathan, but not sure if he's ready yet so I think his goal was to just stick with us as long as possible. Anyways. Mitch and I were in the back and Julien and Dallen were in the front. Everyone else was supposed to be in between us. We all managed to run the first mile mostly togehter, and we only ran like a 4:58. Then, everything changed when the fire nation attacked. Dallen and Julien got tired and Xander took the lead. Logan started to fall back so I surged up to help Mikey. He started throwing up so I surged up to help reconnect Alex. It was at this moment that I realised we'd muffed up. Alex wasn't looking to hot so I sprinted up to Xander, who was a whopping 20 meters in front of me. Julien and Dallen were dead and definitely looked that way too. I caught Xander with like 600m to go, and he was in second place of the race at this point. I was dead af tired but I knew I had to push for him to get it. We cross the finish line at 8:49. Only a 1:09, I'm thinking. So I give it everything I have and am yelling at Xander and we are pushing our guts out and we get to the back stretch and I'm yelling at him telling him he has to beat me and everyone is going wild and he zooms past me and we finish and it blowed. He got 9:59. Less than 1 second away from state qualifying. So I mean it's whatever. Xander ran an excellent race and I guarentee that he will qualify, but it just kinda sucked because we had 4 guys who we were confident we would state qualify, and none of them got it. Xander was pretty down on himself, but I told him to just take all of the positives out of it, and we would definitely get it soon.

Was planning on just a chill run at the meet because I didn't race, so I went on the warmup with the 4x800 guys, and when I got back coach asked if I wanted to do some 400 repeats at the girl's 800 pace. I was very excited about this offer because I wanted to run hard after the sadness of yesterday. I just ran the 2nd half of each girl's 800 at their pace, which was about 1:13-17. Wasn't very hard, considering it was running a mile at 2 mile pace, with a break between each lap. The guys looked pretty solid too, only missing the school record by about 3 seconds.

I'm not sure how or why he thought of this, but Colton said we should run the last 10 miles of the Marathon course. So that's what we did. Been working on form lately and getting my Cadence up. Just driving more and snapping the foot back quicker. Ran to Coach's house and helped him lift a hecka heavy boulder looking boulder. Hurt my back while lifting but I was blessed as it did not hurt the rest of the run or at all today so that's super bueno.

The 3200 was epic. I started out a little bit further back than I shoul've, but I still got a solid 1 second PR. Xander told me to just go run my race and not worry about him qualifying, because if we try to run the exact pace it will be risky. He finished with a solid 9:45, PRing by 14 seconds from just last week! What a baller. I felt pretty good and my form looked way better than ever, so that's a plus. Also ran the 1600 today but posted it on tomorrow.

Wowsers. The wind blowwwwed. Was ready to throw down. Felt so freaking good. I was gonna go sub 9:35. 3rd or 4th lap in I literally tore a muscle in my upper right back. Like I felt it rip. Tried to shake it out and it went numb I think from the adrenaline. The pain hit hard on lap 7 and I just kept truckin along. Was within range to the leaders most of the race but the wind was killer and I was dying, so I never caught up. Last lap some dude tried to catch me and I was mad so I beat him by .05 seconds for a solid 4th place of 9:53.. It's okay tho. My back hurt so bad afterward that I barely made it back to our team spot to get someone to help me. Could hardly breathe and I couldn't move. Laid down most of the bus ride home and it felt a little better when I got home. Gonna go see a chiropractor in the next few days and get it checked out. I blame the guys team for bullying me and making me stressed to the point that my muscles were so tense that they decided to kill themselves. Thanks.

After a very, very long day of AP testing, I'd say I did pretty good. I was shooting for a sub 9:30, but you don't always get what you want. I was in 3rd for the first 4 laps, about 10 meters behind some kid from Herriman named Adam (I only remember his name because EVERYONE there was cheering for him). 1st place was Talon Hull and he was way out of the picture... Anywas, I took the lead the 5th lap because we weren't going quite as fast as I wanted us to be going, and apparently I didn't really pick it up once I passed him. I just gapped him and then stuck a solid 1:13 pace for the last few laps. Really focused on form and such and Roberts said I looked super good. My ankle has been hurting the last few days and it was killing before the race, but luckily it went away as soon as we started racing. I don't remember twisting it or spraining it or anything, so I'm hoping it'll go away over the weekend. I am 100% rambling right now. Overall, not the outcome I was shooting for, but it felt very good for practically running alone. Plus I got a cool shirt for taking 2nd.

Did some sick trail run in Draper. Ran up quite a ways and down through a valley and up to the top of the other side, and you could see into a valley and all of the giant mountains all over the place. It was epic. Then, on the way back we found a single track and hauled BUTT down that thing. like 5:20 avg probably. Had to stop every time some bikers were coming up. Only almost slipped twice. One was incredibly scary because I couldn't slow down and was running straight towards a drop off, and the other wasn't as scary looking, but it caught me by surpirse and a bad word that substitutes "poop" may have come out of my mouth as tripped... But it's okay because we ended the run at the temple and it was dope looking.

Well I benched 65 this morning and squatted the bar and tried to dead lift only the bar and almost died so that's great. Just blogged all of my runs since April 25..... Gonna be more consistent. Actually, I AM gonna blog more. Every bloody day fam.

Wow I really need to learn to run a good mile. I'm very grateful that I qualified the first time I ran it, because I haven't ran it good since then. Coach told me I just need to run in the front. That's the only way to run a good mile. This must be true, as Alex ran a 4:30 because he went out and led part of the race. I started out feeling super good and then just like usual I felt like crap on the third lap and pooped out. Need to figure out how to just go with the pain. Not quite what we expected. Still quite happy with a solid 3rd place, but the 9:57 wasn't quite as good. I wasn't ready for championship style racing, and I should've taken the lead at some point and tried to make a push, but I wasn't feeling to great. 600 to go and Bryson King from DH was right on my shoulder, and I really didn't have much in me. I'm surprised I ended up beating him, but like me, he barely had enough energy to even finish. This race made me realize that a 9:50 somethin can hurt just as bad as a 9:30, so might as well run the faster one. Gotta have guts next week at state and get after it. Obviously, this wasn't my meet, but I really look forward to state next week.

Not that hard of a workout. Just something to get our legs moving and control a solid pace. Hit 1:46 and 1:45 on my 600s, and the first 200 was like 33 and my ankle was freaking hurting so bad. Almost didn't do the last 3 but I kinda just shook it out and gave myself a running start on the next 3. Like 29-30-28. KICK IT! pt 2. Found a golf ball and kicked the crap out of it most of the run. Then Alex kicked it into a very busy road and it totally bounced under the car and into the bottom of it. Probably still in their parts and such under their car right now... Oh and then Julien kicked an orange into the air and it smacked the front of some truck that was driving by and coach got mad at him and they jogged down to the truck (Which had pulled of to the side of the road) and apologized. The poor lady driving it probably thought she hit a child. My stomach was killing me the last 20 minutes of the run, but I kept on'a truckin.

Didn't follow through with the place of running up in the front at all. Started on the inside of the second curve and thought I was in good position but after the first 100 I was in the back of the pack behind all of the 4:50 guys. Kind of moved up throughout the first 2 laps but wasn't being brave at all. I realized this the 3rd lap and passed everyone in that pack and was reconnecting to the back of the string of top guys. Pushed hard and ended up 9th. Not amazingly proud of that race because I know that I have had so much more in me this season in the mile, but I'm just glad I finally got out of my stupid 4:40 slump. Missed the school record by 1 second.. rats. Definitely the best race of my life. Coach got after me yesterday for sitting back in the mile and being a wuss, and it added to my already super determined spirits for the 2 mile today. I woke up this morning ready to run the best race of my life. It's like I knew that there was no way I could possibly do bad. Started out and just decided to stay with the front group of guys the whole time, and if they slowed the pace down, I would take control and make it my race. This definitely did not happen, and you could tell by our 4:45 firts mile (Faster than Julien's mile yesterday in the actual mile race hahah). I started to get tired at the end of lap 5 so I took the lead and tried to recover just a bit, and the other guys did also and they passed me back 200m later, but it definitely helped. I honestly don't think I've led a single race this whole season, so it was defs different. 500 to go and Jensen and Caleb took off, and Jaden kind of did but his wuss power activated and he decided that he couldn't catch them so he kinda just chilled. I picked it up and tried to kick it in the last lap, and I was hurting. Jaden kept on sprinting then jogging, and I caught up to him jogging with 100 to go and fought until about 20 meters left and died hard, and he got a couple steps ahead and turned back and looked at me and lifted up his arms as if to say "Really? That's all you've got?" Definitely almost punched him in the face but my good soul told me not to. Overall a freaking beast race and I'm not even that sad that I missed the record because I know that I'm gonna throw down in XC and follow through to destroy in track next year. Overall a super dope season and I'm proud and thankful for everyone who helped me along the way. See you in two weeks.

Congrats on the outstanding race. Jaiden definitely did a few things this weekend that showed who he really is. Solid first run of the season. Solid as in really hard. I got my wisdom teeth out last wednesday and I haven't eaten any actual food for a few days, so I'm gonna go ahead and use that excuse because it seems pretty valid. I'm excited for during the season when the runs actually feel good and stuff and the runs feel like they're helping my body and not destroying it. Can't wait for what's going to happen this season.

Today was straight up 10x easier than yesterday's run. I ate two costa vida burrtios yesterday so I had a lot in my system, and I'm guessing that helped. Ran 15 min then finished on the grass with some striders.  Really confident for this upcoming season and it sucks that its like 2 months away haha. Kids club was good but I had a phsyical at 9:10 that I forgot about and my mom came to the elementary at 9 and was like "don't you have somewhere to be buddy?" Man what would I do without my mom..

Nice run felt good on the legs. Coach twisted his ankle and ate a bucket of crap so that was cool. His hand looked gnarly. Went and helped Holt's brother and dad move a giant hot tub from their backyard and onto a trailer. Extremely hard work and definitely the most stress I've ever forced my body to endure. There was a point where we were in an awkward position and it was pretty much just me and Alex holding the corner of it and luckily he is shredded because I was dying. Once we set it down he like colapsed on the ground and I had to take a sit for a second. Ripped my finger open on the very last push so that blowed. Overall a good morning because a lot happened.

1. Coach fell hard

2. We moved a giant hot tub and my biceps are gonna be huge tomorrow (if that's how muscles worked, that'd be dope)

3. I learned what Plywood was.

Loop down to telegraph and up the Parkway. Nice long uphill and then a quick downhill. My right quad was hurting pretty bad today. Hopefully it's just sore and I didn't hurt it or anything. It hurt especially bad during striders. Stretched it pretty good after practice and will throughout the day. Colton said there were some Nike Flyknit Racers at Ross for like $50 so I'll probably go check those out and get them today if I can. Actually, it depends on if my mom loves me enough:)

Met at Sullivan park and ran out around Shinob Kibe on the roller coaster trail. Me and J cruised on that baby and gapped everyone by a bit. Looped around and rejoined everyone for a faster finish. Started out way too quick and didn't really ease into it, but we chilled and kept a solid 6:40 pace for the last few miles. Coach wants us to start doing quicker finishes on almost every run and I think this is a great idea. Especially if it ends up working and we can do it in races. My right leg right above my quad has been hurting the last 2 days and I'm guessing it's because I've really been focusing on driving my knees up and it's just tired from that. Been stretching and draining my legs at home after practice everyday so I should be safe from any long term injuries.

Beast first workout with the boys. Missing Alex from our main group while he's at Boys' State but that's okay I guess. Had everyone with us for the first 2 laps, and Corbin fought a hard first half and clutched it up on his 3rd lap, and Evan started to die out when Corbin stopped, but we told him he could keep going and sure enough, he made it for the rest of the lap along with Colton Nathan Mikey Dylan and probably some others but I can't remember. Dylan is showing that he really wants to do good this season, and he made it with us longer than anyone else so that's clutch. Logan Julien and I pushed way hard the last lap because the freaking wind sucked, and we did a 2 man shield and just rotated. Overall not crazy hard, and it helped me foucs on being with the team and getting good positioning and then going for it at the end.

Easy run with the first half out and finishing on grass. The sprinklers were turned on at the softball field, so it was soaking wet. And it just happens to be the coldest day of summer so far, and my feet were frozen. So frozen that when we finished and walked back to the school, i couldn't even feel the rough painful dirt on the field or the rocks on the gravel. Hopefully I didn't like puncture my foot or anything like that.

Kid's club after and some kid cried because something happened in the relay race and it was easily fixable but K-2nd graders don't understand anything and he wouldn't calm down so I started to leave him and he just followed me back crying and then when we cheered for the winners of the relay he flipped his lid. Oh darn. I don't think I'm gonna have kids...

Ran upper Grapevine trail. My upper quad like where it connects to my hip on the front was hurting pretty bad again, and I honestly think it's just from the knee drive. I'll get used to it, as it's not such a pain that would prevent me from running. Ran back with level 2's and then we extended around, and we did like 2 extra loops to get our time. coach is getting old and keeps forgetting stuff...

First long run wasn't bad at all. Not very many people here today because of Church stuffs. I muffed up my ankle yesterday at the lake (i tripped on the way back--wasn't from doing some dangerous stupid ish). Hurt pretty bad for the first 10-15 minutes of the run but I forgot about it until I got home, and I can barely walk around my house and it's like super swollen, so that's cool. Overall beast run and shoutout to Nathan and especially Dylan because they're being freakings beast and they're gonna throw down this year. I'm excited.

8:Met at Middleton Park and ran a trail out there. Last time I ran this trail I ran straight into a barbed wire line the was at like chest height and I didn't see it until last second when I had jumped over the wire on the ground, and I caught myself by grabbing onto the wire and ripping my hands open. Made sure that I didn't do that this time. Felt good throughout the whole run, and we went up a super long steep hill, and once we reached the top it was just a gradual downhill for the next 1-2 miles. Finished the run at about 6:20-30 for the last 3 miles. Striders felt good and my ankle doesn't hurt anymore. Stuck around with Jose and Julien and did some trick shots. Made a 360 halfcourt off of a bench. Some people call it luck, I call it dedication.

Really didn't want to get up this morning for some reason. Started out the run at like 8 AM and it was pretty nice feeling outside. about 15 minutes in the sun must've woken up or something because it got so freaking hot. Ran up to Highland park from my house and then back down. Hard push up that long sucky hill, and a harder push coming back with 6:40 last few miles. Came home and took a cold shower about 10 minutes after the run. I've never done that before and it felt pretty dang good. Definitely a hard push on this run and my heart rate was a lot higher than it usually is, even during workouts. Did some nice Yoga after too.

Had to extend out a bunch and then make a million turns on the way back because we made it to the school in time for lvl 2's at 75 minutes and we still had 15 more. Picked up the pace a bunch the last few miles. Had about 6:30 left and me and Julien were the last ones still going, and I asked him if he wanted to shoot for 13 miles. We picked it up and he had to take a shortccut to catch up to me, but I ended up running a 6:01 last mile and then just jogged straight in to finish my time. It's good to know that I can push a hard last mile after 12 of them and be cofident that I can. Stretched suuuuper good because I don't wanna get hurt. Overall a great first super long run

Well I'm back! Haven't blogged in about two weeks and I'm sad to say that I have no valid excuse. I'll update the last two weeks in the mornign because it's pretty late right now. Can't sleep because I'm thinking really hard about a lot of things.

*Warning* super long random venting of feelings ahead

Well once upon a time I wanted to be a state champion and run on a state champion team. I also wanted to race at Nike Nationals. I once was so dedicated that I went to bed on time every single night and I blogged everyday and I worked hard at everything I did. Lately, however, I've made all of this seem like a dream. I haven't been fully focused on what's most important to me. I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe it's because it's summer. Maybe it's because I think I'm already good enough. But maybe it's because I'm scared. I thought a lot this week and realized how hard these goals are going to be. I think about all of the people who thing they are too unrealistic. People who are close to me and who I really wish would believe in them too. And that's what scares me. The fact that it's going to be difficult and not everyone will stand by my side. But I have come to realize at this late hour that it doesn't matter. Any dream can happen if you just be persistent and follow through with the plan. We've made our goals for this year and I've improved so much and I know that I can improve a lot more, and become the amazing athelete that I want to become. And I know I'm rambling but I can't sleep and I'm just coming to the realization that I can do it. We can do it. I just need to remember why and how I was once so committed, and start living that way again. I'm gonna start blogging every day and doing everything that I need to do in order to be great. This week has been really chill and I've liked it, but I'd rather be pushing just a bit harder in life and doing great things, then sitting at home in December having a "chill" time.

Thought a lot about how epic it'll be when one day people are like "Hey, I used to see that guy running by my house every once in a while, and now he's famous!" That would be the cooliest thing ever

Ran the 2 mile loop and it made me excited for our time trials and our Desert Relays. Ready to do very well in those. Well today's run sucked for all of us. Grant Julien Mikey and Jose. We went and ran Chuckwala trail and it was all fun and stuff and we got to the cool lookout cliff, but we were only 20 minutes out, so we decided to run down the mountain on Scout Cave trail and go check out the cool caves in the wall. Stopped for probably a lot longer than we should've and had fun climbing and almost dying. The run back up was incredibly exhausting and it sucked. We were going pretty dang slow and it was super hot and we were tired from stopping and running up the super steep hill. Julien was pukin and stuff and Jose flipped early and ended up getting lost and Grant Mikey and I were just dead tired. Went to Orange Peel after and got some nice yummy *healthy* smoothies.

All I could think of is "this is gonna be Nike, and if this dude passes me, we don't go to Nationals." and I pushed freakin hard and held the lead. Stopped for a while to get sand out of shoes and wait for people. I definitely agree with Anakin Skywalker and his thoughts about sand. Rest of the run was pretty chill. Got like 5 minutes of warmup was all and then cooled to time after the race. Stayed the night in Enterprise with Colton and Logan so that was dope. Ran like a solid 5:55 pace for the first two miles, even though we did like 3 pickups to try and go quicker. Scottie was freakin killin it and Colton kinda died at the end and Logan had to poop so it was just me and Scottie and I just picked it up barely enough to beat him by like one second. I felt pretty fine and definitely could've gone faster, but I was treating it more like a workout than a race so I just stuck at 5:55 pace. I noticed how different the mindset is going into a race than it is when going into a workout. We ran the race at about the same pace that we do tempos, but we do Tempos for like 25 minutes and they are a nice push, whereas this race it seemed like it required a lot of effort to push any faster. Not sure how to explain it better than that, but overall just a nice insight I had.

Came home and drank chocoalte milk and a gatorade protein shake so that's good. Been doing stretches for my back and I think it's getting a little better.

Ran Prospector with Alex, Colton, Logan, and Jose. The weather was soooo nice today and I was like zoned out the whole run just imagining future races so it was an amazing run. Also saw a cool spider so that was cool.

We were somewhat rushed to start, and I only managed to get one stride out in, but I'm totally fine with that because it gave me less time to stress on the starting line. I started out pretty dang strong and quick and I felt amazing. Got in good positioning in the back middle of the front pack. Alex was right behind me and reconnected just a bit before the first mile marker. We were making good progress and using open areas in between people to pass and it was clutch. It's like our minds were connected and we were thinking the same thing. At like 1.5 I started to make more surges and got closer to the front. At mile 2 I was in like 10th, and Coach Holt told me to get 5 more guys. At first I was like dude man cmon 5 is a lot. But then, I realized dude why not, I felt freakin good so I definitely can. Pushed again and could see the leader and with about 800 to go I had a split second thought to start pushing super hard and go win. Looking back on the race, I know for A FACT that I could have accomplished that. I saved just a bit of energy and sat behind 5th and 6th place until before the hill, and I passed 6 right before and 5 right when I got on top. Almost caught up to 4 (who was totally dead) but he sprinted the last 10 meters and beat me by .03 seconds. Anyways, looking back on the race at the moment I thought about winning....

It's kind of interesting to me, how racing works. Coach Holt and most importantly, my mom, didn't have any doubts about how well I would perform. My mom said if I took top 5, I won't have to pay her back for this new video game I bought. I asked her to change it to top 10, because "that's more realistic." After arguing with her about it, she said that top 10 would suffice, but that doesn't mean I should settle. Coach Holt asked me earlier in the week if I was ready to run with "the big dogs." I told him heck yes, and I knew it was gonna be tough, but I have my goals and I want to be freaking good one day. I completely forgot about the conversation my mother and I had about the game, and I ended up taking 5th anywas. She told me that she knew I could do it, and honestly, I wish I would've seen it too. Because after the race I realized that with 800 left, I definitely should have pushed up and tried to win. I had enough energy after I finished that I realized that I would've still had the same kick, and I could have put that energy in earlier. It's' all about how much you believe in yourself, and not saying "I'm already in 7th, I'll just past these couple of guys' but instead saying, "I'm Carson freaking Horspool and I can do anything."

At Bob Firman, I'm not going to have any doubts.

I'm going to run with "The Big Dogs"

I'm going to beat "The Big Dogs"

Because I am a "Big Dog."

Ran the state course. Was super good and after yesterday's race, I am way pumped for state this year. I ran a little extra at the end and just finished the course up until the blocked off gate and visualized finishing the race. Ryan Raff ended up beating me on the track, but I held off Caleb and Jensen. Not really sure where Bryson and Alex were... oops. But it was super awesome and I got the chills and I'm so ready to rek.

It's great that you've had this realization, you truly need to have the confidence that you can win. You're definitely a big dog, the trick is to run your best race. You were feeling great at Murray, and there's no reason you can't feel great at other races, but you also have to take every race as it comes.

Running the way you did and moving up through the pack ensures that you will have your best race. And in running your best race there's no doubt that you will win races. I'd just caution you that going out with the Big Dogs means also risking burning out with the Big Dogs. You are a Big Dog, but you have to be your own racer, and race your best.

Then just ran back and extended a teeny bit. Felt pretty good except for the back of my right ankle is kinda hurting. I'll make sure to ice it later.

Well the guys team has decided that I'm not a good captain and that I should be kicked off. It really sucks that they don't understand that I work my b*tt off in everything I do, and that they are clearly friggin jealous of how much better than them I am. It really sucks when you let those things ruin your judgement about how awesome someone is. I just feel really, really sorry for them. Ran with Alex and Evan and talked about the show 24 so that was cool.

Started out a bit too fast I think. Got in the back of the lead pack in probably like 30th-40th place. Got to the beach section and hadn't really made any progress. Did a pickup in the surge zone and passed a few, but when I got to the hill some kids slowed down hardcore in front of me so I slowed and passed them quickly on the right, and I think I used a lot of energy there. Push down the hill super fast and I think it was unecessarily fast. Felt pretty burnt out once the hill ended, and it wasn't even halfway through the race yet. Ended up staying where I was and having only a few people pass me until the end.

I think that starting out crazy fast and making crazy fast surges (such as the hill) just aren't good for me. I need to just do my own little pickups throughout the race like I usually do. Although this wasn't a good race at all to me, I did learn from it, and Cedar Invite will be a good one.

From Glory in the long run on Tue, Sep 26, 2017 at 23:26:56 from 67.2.79.156

Everyone is different in how well they can surge, but generally "squeezing it down" is more energy efficient than "surging." Fartlek can help you be more efficient.

But ditto "quality race reflection."

Better race than usual. I was being a wussbag and didn't pass the 2 dudes in front of me at the end, and I waited until Bryson got up behind me and I outsprinted him. D-bag move I'd say. Either way, I beat him..

Ran super well with Alex and Nathan for the first mile. Connected with Spence and he was having a super good race. Alex and I passed him on the uphill and kept pushing up. Did really good in our surge zone, which was that whole top section. When we came back and turned the corner, Alex slipped and fell down the hill. I kept looking back for him and Coach yelled at me lol. He ended up catching up but eventually fell off. I pushed up and caught Josh Armstrong from Hurricane once I got to the track. He wouldn't give up and we pushed up to Bryson and some Timp View dude by the time we got to the downhill sidewalk. Bryson Josh and I fought all the way down the sidewalk, and Bryson kinda fell off at the end of it. Josh pushed hard up that hill and got in front of me by the track. Then I acted like a wuss and whatnot and didn't cath them.

Overall a good race for me. After sucking it up at Bob Firman this made me feel pretty good about myself. We barely won the meet by 3 over DH and 6 over Hurricane. This just show that we have a lot of work to do if we want to win State. Like it isn't going to come easy. Caleb is freaking beasting it, and I think I need to be somewhere near him if I want us to place better. He ran like a 14:47 at the region course for the Hurricane meet, so I'm hoping to go sub 15:00. I just gotta figure out all of the stress and stuff in my life so that I can run to the best of my ability.

Nice run with the Varsity boys. Missed Julien. Ran a cool loop out towards Bloomington Hills and back into Washington Fields. Dropped to like 6:45 the last 3 or 4 miles. Finished with 2 F pace 200s. Practiced kicking my feet back because I watched some Olympic races yesterday and they kick really hard and I noticed I don't that much. Overall a good run and felt fine.

Side note: In the locker room, I had just finished getting ready and it was just Parker, Evan, and I. I reached down to grab my backpack but it was under my opened locker, and so I slammed the locker shut because my bag was stuck hooked on it and the locker hit me in the head and I fell on the ground and passed out. Was pretty loopy and out of it for like an hour, but I recovered after doing some hardcore math.

Nice run on the Softball field. Tried some blind running (closing your eyes and running) and had Logan direct me. Pretty scary but I trusted him a lot. Gave up after about a lap and saw like 40 shadows and I just freaked out. Mikey and Nathan were doing it later and their leaders (JD and Dylan) led them into each other and they colided heads hard. That's 3 head injuries in one day so that sucks.

Well all great things have to end one day, I guess. Ran well the first 2 miles and was in posisition. Does our and tried to stay connected to Alex and Julien. Julien ran really well and took off, Alex and I died out. Finished 14th. Would’ve won if I took 7th, which is worse than I was planning anyways. Win some you lose some. We did really well and tried pretty hard. Regardless of how we ended up, we all pushed pretty hard. PVXC Forever.

Good race. That's really close, I wouldn't say you died in the last mile, 9 seconds off where you want to be isn't dying. I'd also say that being a little more conservative in the first mile, say 5 seconds, will get you the 10 seconds you want in the last mile.

First workout all year that I’ve actually struggled with. Not sure why though. My lungs and gut just hurt real bad. I tried treating it like a race and forcing myself to fight through it, but after the 3rd and 4th reps I thought I wa going to die. Led the last one for the most part until the end but I stuck in there and only fell off by like a second or two. Was a good workout that reminded me that I need to fight if I want to be great.

15 warm then race then 15 cool

Nike Southwest Regionals was a fun time. I settled a little too early in the race, but still ran pretty fast I think. Connected with Alex at about 800 meters in. First mile was sub 5 (because I leaned over the line hehehe) and I feel like we were in like 80th place or so, and the rest of the race we just passed people. Started to gap Alex and came past 2 miles at about 10:10 and that was also pretty good I thought. Ended with like a 16:00 something. I surged just as I had planned in the zone where I pooped out the last two years and then just continued it hard into the finish because I realized that it was my last race:( passed like 10-20 people in the finishing chute which sucks to me because I could’ve passed like 30 if I would’ve put that energy into my second mile. Overall it was a pretty good last race. I achieved my goal of running hard through the pain and not being a wuss (but I think that happened because I wasn’t going incredibly fast), but I definitely missed my target of being top 30. Oh well.

Sad to say my time with PVXC is over, but it was an absolutely amazing time. Thanks to my bros for being Bros and believing in me, and thanks to my coaches for being the best. Thanks to my mom as well for being way better than anyone else’s moms.

Well shooooot. After yesterday’s terrible run my IT band was hurting all day and I could barely lift my leg up without it hurting. Stretched it and such but on the run today I got down the fire station hill and then when I was coming up the other side I could hardley drag my leg to get up it (even though it was the small side). Just took it in to my house from there and didn’t finish my pickups. Probably going to take tomorrow off just to be safe and I’ll keep stretching it and icing and stuff.
